Our Curriculum Vision
At St Cuthbert and The First Martyrs’ Catholic Primary School, we aim to provide an excellent, exciting education where all children thrive and develop a lifelong love of education. Through adapting our curriculum to meet the needs of our children, we ensure we not only deliver the statutory content of the National Curriculum but also enable the children to develop transferable skills and have wonderful and meaningful experiences - to give children the best days of their lives!
Our curriculum is built around these three strands:
- Character Education (Our Catholic Virtues): We focus on developing the whole child, supporting their spiritual, moral, social and cultural growth. Through this, children learn to be caring, respectful and responsible citizens, growing in fellowship with Christ.
- Skills Education: Working with the Skillsbuilder partnership, we help children develop lifelong skills that prepare them for the modern world and future careers. By opening their eyes to opportunities, we inspire them to be ambitious and aim high.
- Knowledge Education: A strong foundation of knowledge underpins all our learning. We focus on building “sticky knowledge” — the key facts and understanding that children remember and can apply over time. Our curriculum is reviewed each year to ensure it meets the needs of our pupils and gives them the best chance to succeed.
Woven through these strands is our desire for children to have the best days of their lives at school and achieve their potential through exciting, hands-on learning. Our curriculum is inclusive, engaging and enriched with trips, events and projects that bring learning to life. We encourage children to be independent, confident and resilient learners, supported by teachers who set ambitious goals and help every child reach their full potential.
